Data Architect

Own the clinical data layer that connects NexaSource capture, Nexa Bus integrations, and sponsor EDC systems — translating protocols and CRFs into durable, standards-aligned schemas that scale across studies.

United States Austin, TX

About the role

Nexa Trials is seeking an experienced Data Architect to design and govern the clinical data models that power our platform and services. You will sit at the intersection of eSource, EDC, and sponsor reporting — defining how data captured in NexaSource™ maps through Nexa Bus™ into Medidata Rave, Veeva, Oracle Clinical One, and custom sponsor environments.

Your work directly reduces duplicate entry, query volume, and study startup friction. You will partner with clinical operations, QC analysts, integration engineers, and AI/automation teams in Lahore to ensure every mapping decision is traceable, GCP-aligned, and maintainable across protocol amendments and multi-site rollouts.

This role is based in Austin, Texas — Nexa Trials headquarters — with flexibility for hybrid or remote work within US time zones. You will report to the Head of Data & Integrations and contribute to our standards roadmap across CDISC, OMOP, and FHIR.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end data models for eSource forms, visit schedules, and Nexa Bus transfer pipelines from protocol and CRF specifications
  • Author and maintain EDC/eSource field mappings, transformation rules, and validation logic for sponsor and CRO study builds
  • Define canonical data structures that support NexaSource capture, NexaScheduler visit events, and downstream analytics
  • Apply CDISC standards (SDTM, ADaM concepts, Define-XML awareness) and evaluate OMOP/FHIR applicability for interoperability initiatives
  • Partner with integration engineers on API contracts, event schemas, and error-handling patterns for live study transfers
  • Review QC findings and query trends to identify systemic mapping gaps and recommend architectural improvements
  • Document data lineage, mapping decisions, and amendment impact assessments for audit-ready sponsor deliverables
  • Contribute to reusable mapping libraries, study templates, and governance processes that accelerate study startup
  • Mentor junior data analysts and collaborate with Clinical AI engineers on structured outputs for LLM-assisted mapping tools

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in clinical data architecture, EDC build, or clinical data management on Phase I–IV trials
  • Deep working knowledge of CDISC standards and practical experience translating CRFs into structured clinical datasets
  • Hands-on experience with EDC/eSource mapping — field-level transformations, edit checks, and cross-form dependencies
  • Proficiency with at least two major EDC platforms (e.g., Medidata Rave, Veeva Vault CDMS, Oracle Clinical One, REDCap)
  • Strong SQL skills and familiarity with data integration patterns (REST APIs, flat-file exchange, ETL pipelines)
  • Ability to read protocols and SAPs and translate clinical intent into implementable data specifications
  • Excellent documentation habits — mapping specs, data dictionaries, and change logs that satisfy sponsor audit expectations
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Nice to have

  • Experience with OMOP CDM, FHIR resources, or real-world data interoperability projects
  • Exposure to NexaSource, custom eSource platforms, or site-centric capture workflows
  • Knowledge of ICH E6(R2) GCP requirements for data integrity and ALCOA+ principles
  • Python or similar scripting for mapping validation, diff analysis, or automated spec generation
  • Prior work with CROs, mid-size sponsors, or multi-site network rollouts
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted mapping or clinical NLP for document extraction

What we offer

Join a clinical technology company where data architecture decisions ship to production on live studies — not sit in enterprise backlog limbo. You will shape the foundation that Nexa Bus, NexaSource, and our QC operations depend on.

  • Competitive salary, equity consideration, and comprehensive US health benefits
  • Hybrid or remote flexibility anchored to our Austin headquarters
  • Direct influence on product data models and integration strategy
  • Collaboration with engineering teams in Lahore and QC operations in Dubai
  • Conference and certification support for CDISC, FHIR, and clinical data management credentials
  • Clear path to lead architect or Head of Data & Integrations as the portfolio grows
